The Passage meets Ender’s Game in an epic new series from award-winning author Rick Yancey.

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker.

Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

Warning: Some scenes include violence and bullying.

Cassie feels like she’s the last person in the world. Her parents are gone, and all she has left her little brother who is counting on her. She’s been alone for so long she doesn’t remember what interacting with another human feels like until she meets Evan Walker who ultimately rescues her from herself. Together, they go on a journey to fight Them and take back what is rightfully theirs.. Their own lives.

The book starts off slow, but it picks up speed and it never stops. Oh boy, it doesn’t stop at all. This is one book that will have you reading the entire 480 pages in one sitting. It’s that epic!

The 5th Wave is a wonderful story full of survival, heartache romance, action and adventure. The plot is simple, and the characters are overly complex and developed. That is why I’m in love with this book. You know exactly what Cassie wants, but Rick doesn’t let you off that easy. There are twists and turns that you didn’t even see coming. I like how it’s the end of the world and Cassie still carries books around! Shows how much of a BO-OK NERD she is :D).

What’s not to love about the characters in this one? Cassie is one heroine to watch. She is incredibly intelligent, strong and also completely vulnerable when love comes into her life. That’s also what makes her completely relatable. She also talks a lot about how she thinks God abandons her and some of the best quotes were from these thoughts. That’s not to say the other characters fall flat. Evan and even some other secondary characters are also one of my favourites just because you feel so emotionally connected to these characters. Set in multiple viewpoints which I wished were more clear cut because I didn’t even notice it changed. Here’s to hoping that the finished copies will address this issue?

This one book that will put the Hunger Games to shame for its sheer emotional character development, fast-paced action and a simple but true plot that I’m highly recommending this to everyone I know. Seriously.

Incredibly detailed character personalities. Love them all.

Slow start but then it picks up fast. The length is long but I didn’t care after a while.

One word. LOVE!

Simple survival story, but Cassie’s journey is what makes this novel epic in my eyes!

Overall, if you like survival stories, multiple viewpoints and aliens, then this book is for you.

You can only call someone crazy if there’s someone else who’s normal. Like good and evil. If everything was good, then nothing would be good. (13)
The thing about killing is you don’t know if you can actually do it until you actually do it. (22)
You know how sometimes you tell yourself that you have a choice, but really you don’t have a choice? Just because there are alternatives doesn’t mean they apply to you. (96)
Even though I saved you, you won’t let yourself trust me. (178)
You can’t make yourself believe anything. But you can let yourself believe. You can allow yourself to trust. (280)
Before I found you, I thought the only way to hold on was to find something to live for. It isn’t. To hold, you have to find something you’re willing to die for. (281)

The human race would lose for the simple reason that we could not agree on anything, never mind on how to fight the invaders unless a strong and charismatic leader emerges which is duobtful for the simple reason that our leaders are greedy for power and full of self-interest. Such is the way of things. Such is human nature. But there would be pockets of resistance which may or may not succeed. Such is also human nature. The resilience and resourcefulness of man is sometimes very surprising.

If aliens invaded Earth, I would either be very brave (and utterly stupid) and try to protect my planet or be very scared (and rather sensible) and go hide somewhere… But why would every alien have to be nasty and controlling? Zombies proved to be able to evolve in Warm Bodies, haha.

If they are bad I would fight back.

If they were good I would try to make friends.

    Thanks for the great giveaway!

I think I’d pretend to be one of THEM and try to not die… 🙂

My neighbours have a bomb shelter, I’m totally moving into it. 😀

My survival instinct tells me I should hide! That’s the only way because I don’t know how dangerous they are.

If aliens invaded earth I would cry and then activate my super awesome powers and rid of the evil doers as soon as I could and then begin to re-build the world as it once was or in a better way even.

I would proceed with caution — probably first hide!!!

If aliens invaded Earth I would get as far away from the US as possible. LOL. (All the aliens in movies seem to go for the States. Hahaha!)
I’d try not to anger them and hope that, like the rest of world, they really like Canadians!
Seriously though, I think I’d probably be the one to join them if it seemed that I couldn’t beat them!
I’m looking forward to reading 5th Wave, the blogging community has been raving about it and I see that you feel the same!
