I started Book Nerd after my employment ended sadly at the magazine (gotta love the economy!), but that didn’t stop me from pursuing it. Writing reviews wasn’t part of my job description but being able to read books were so much fun, it didn’t feel like work!
I only actively started to approach other publishers when I was blogging for 7 months. As bloggers before me, I was hesitant. I was scared. I thought about all those What ifs? “What if I wasn’t high enough on page views? Or what if I have such low social media numbers they wouldn’t even bother?” I was apprehensive to say the least, but like I said I took the chance and haven’t looked back since. And once I got a reply back, it felt like a big weight lifted off my shoulders. They liked my blog and stats enough to reply! I felt proud and accomplished.
I am incredibly grateful for all the wonderful lengths the publishers go through to get books for me. Sometimes their resources are limited and they don’t have enough ARCs to pass on to bloggers. And that’s okay, because I can and will wait until a book is ready to be sold so I can get my hands on ’em.
There has been many times where I have literally jumped up and down and ran around when I received a book from a courier. You know that feeling, you see the truck drive right up to your house and see him holding a package that can contain the next “I-can’t-put-this-down” type of book. That exact same feeling can elevate when your heart speeds up and your excitement builds and you want to tear into the package to see the goodie underneath. It feels like Christmas every day of the week. And I want to thank each and every one of the publishers who have dedicated their time and energy taking this one little book blogger and making her one happy book nerd.
