Movie Review: ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’

Fifty Shades of Grey is the hotly anticipated film adaptation of the bestselling book that has become a global phenomenon. Since its release, the “Fifty Shades” trilogy has been translated into 51 languages worldwide and sold more than 100 million copies in e-book and print—making it one of the biggest and fastest-selling book series ever.

Stepping into the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, who have become iconic to millions of readers, are Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. Fifty Shades of Grey is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti alongside E L James, the creator of the series. The screenplay for the film is by Kelly Marcel.

These are my thoughts and opinions on the movie adaptation. Please do not take offense.

Soo I watched this little movie called Fifty Shades of Grey. You might have heard of it.. I got dragged into watching it by my friend. Watched it the day it released and let me tell you the showing was pretty packed. Some people were even sitting in the front few rows.

What can I say about this movie adaptation that I didn’t in my book review? First, I couldn’t picture Jamie or Dakota as Anastasia or Christian, until I saw the movie. They were not bad in acting at all. I just couldn’t get over the fact that Jamie Dornan had one facial expression. When Christian was in his closet, and tying his shoelaces, the theatre started cheering and catcalling..Um okay. By the subtle tones of his closet and his condo, you know this man is a control freak. He wears literally no colours, while Anastasia wears all the colours. I really don’t see the attraction to Christian Grey. He’s completely defensive, he doesn’t share anything about himself, and what he’s wealthy and gives Anastasia presents? That’s not a boyfriend.. I’m hoping there’s more substance here!

I found Christian to be controlling, abusive and the fact that he got turned on when he used his belt? That’s just all sorts of kinky that I don’t understand. Yes Anastasia gives some sort of consent. She could have used safe words, but didn’t. And even though he wasn’t physically abusive, he was still completely obsessed with her. Showing up at her workplace, her apartment several times? WHY ISN’T SHE FREAKED OUT? How in the world did he get into her apartment? That’s so scary! Also can I mention how ANNOYED I was when she kept biting her lip? I counted up to 10 and stopped after that..I think it’s ode to Bella’s Twilight because she did the same.

As for the sex scenes, they weren’t even that hot. It was boring and I promptly fell asleep at one point. The entire time I was hoping for it to end already..Oops.

Forgive me, but I’m just not a fan of this series. I’m not even going to bother to know if both characters end up being better in the long run because I really just don’t care.

Hey at least this is getting people to try read and be more adventurous in the bed room!

THANK YOU! I hated this stupid movie. The acting is bad. Dakota was okay, but Jamie Dornan can’t act at all. The movie itself was boring and stupid like the book. T_T I don’t get why I see so many positive reviews for this thing. You’re the first book blogger that didn’t like it.

What a good friend you are! I would have found the lip biting annoying too and I’m not sure how I would react to seeing scenes of spankings or use of other painful toys. It’s one thing to read it, but to see it and hear it? Brave you. 😉
