Q&A: Juhina and Farah at MajiBookshelf

We all know there are book bloggers, but there are also BookTubers on YouTube who talk about books. Here are some of my favourites! Make sure to drop by and check their videos out.

Tell us a little about yourself.

We’re Juhina and Farah, sisters, who started book blogging in 2011 and book tubing since late 2012. We love reading books, specifically young adult books. We discovered book tubing and fell in love. Making videos and talking about books through a camera lens was more fun than we thought it would be!

What made you start book tubing? And how long have you been book tubing?

We started book tubing late of 2012, but we only posted book haul/IMM/Stacking the Shelves videos. We only started using proper filming gear and actually editing our videos in 2013. We love talking in front of the camera and interacting with many people we wouldn’t have been able to through our book blog.

Describe the equipment and software you use to film your videos.

We use two different cameras, a Canon EOS Rebel T3i and a Canon PowerShot G15. We also use a tripod and natural light for lighting. The editing software we use is iMovie on the Mac.

Which video is your favourite one to film? (Reviews, book hauls, tag, etc.)

Our favorite videos to film are book hauls as well as wrap ups/TBRs.. but most recently, Juhina loves filming recommendation and most anticipated books videos of different genres. Farah loves filming fun bookish tags!

How has book tubing changed the way you read? Do you read more from other genres you never considered before?

Of course! book tubing has introduced us to many different book tubers that had their own loved books of different genres that they recommend and we can’t help but pick those books up. Juhina has gotten into more fantasy because of how much the book tubing world loves them.

Do you have any tips for new BookTubers?

We suggest getting to know other book tubers as well. Don’t send emails to book tubers asking them to check your videos.. try to get to know them first through commenting on their videos or even just by talking to them on twitter. We almost always ask if someone has a channel if we”ve spoken to them on twitter. Also, in terms of filming, always film when there is a good amount of daylight.. don’t film in the dark, it will seriously improve the quality of your videos!

Juhina, 22 years old, a current biomedical engineering graduate student. She used to occupy her time by reading, blogging, and watching wayyyyyy too many shows, but now it is work, studying, and reading at any time possible. She’s a perfectionist, sometimes to the point of obsession, and has always taken too much responsibility than what she could handle and usually sacrifices her sleep to keep up with everything. If you know about personality tests, her personality type is INTJ.

Farah, 17, is a high school senior. She’s the more free spirited type of the two which always means that Juhina is always harping on her to do this or that. She’s an artist, specializes in manga drawing, she plays her guitar, and takes instagram photography of her healthy food and living. She is aiming to be a trilingual, with English, Arabic, and hopefully French. She has no idea where she sees herself in five years so don’t ask her that question!
