recap_penguin-blogger-night_invite

Last month, I was cordially invited by Penguin Canada to their head office where they hosted their first Penguin Blogger Night. Canadian authors Adrienne Kress (The Friday Society) and Morgan Rhodes whose real name is Michelle Rowan (Falling Kingdoms) were our special guests!

BLOGGERS! Photography by Jackie from Penguin Canada

I had such a terrible memory that night because I was running on about three hours of sleep. Everything I did felt like I was trying to wade through mud, so please excuse me if I completely forget any details.

The night before I planned where to go, how to get there, how long it would take me..etc. (Thank you Google Maps!), so I wouldn’t get lost. I made plans to meet with Siobhan @ Conversations of a Reading Addict at the Indigo book store, and when I finally got in I also met Andrea @ Cozy Up with a Good Read and Christa @ More than Just Magic. They were off to BMV across the street, and I had to de-frost by getting my own Starbucks.

After getting my drink, Siobhan arrived. We were both checking out the teen section and noticed Michelle loitering around us. She introduced herself and we both had an inner book nerd freak out! It was quite random and also very cool to have run into an author at a book store.

Siobhan and I

We both went off to the office and met Liz @ Midnight Bloom Reads  with Angel @ Mermaid Vision Books in tow. After riding the elevator, there were all the Penguin employees waiting to greet us in the lobby. I finally met Jackie (raZorbill’s Head Blogger), Vimalea, and Rachel whom I have all probably emailed once or twice already. “HI LADIES!”

Book goodies! – Photography by Penguin Canada

There were a spread of bookish goodies on the table. (I didn’t even notice there were books because I was too busy getting excited about the fact that I was going to meet authors LOL) Also there was tons of pizza, pop, and cupcakes!

After chowing down and chatting about books, the presentations started. We were introduced by Faze magazine who started to interview Adrienne and Morgan. The only note that I actually typed in my phone at that time was the fact that Morgan’s Falling Kingdom books are going to be a total of 4 in total. Truly sorry for not recording the entire interview. My phone battery was dying and I needed to conserve it. Such a fail on my part. Since I also had to get my sister from work, I had to leave super early. I kept pushing it back as long as I could, so I could stay 🙁

recap_penguin-blogger-night_my-reviewMy review blurb was on the screen! How exciting!

The interview wrapped up and we were invited to check out the books on the table. While everyone was busy over the books, I went on over to Morgan and got my book signed by her instead. Then while standing in line, I ended up winning a manuscript of The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy. Everyone was telling me how this was going to be THE book of the year, so I automatically got super excited even though I had no idea what it was about to be honest.

After leaving my ARC to get signed by Adrienne for Siobhan, I had to leave. I felt so bad because I couldn’t stay for long, but responsibilities come first.

That night was a super horrible slippery snow storm so I’m grateful I left early.

It wouldn’t be an event without a goodie bag!

Can’t go wrong with a wizard, though I don’t know that I’d want to be HP, probably just a “normal” one, Seamus perhaps. ^.^

This sounds like so much fun, Giselle! I’m so bummed that I don’t live closer to the city because I miss out on so many great events. If I had a car or a book friend nearby, I’d make the two hour drive without a second thought lol.

As for the giveaway question…I think I’d be Hermione from Harry Potter. She’s smart, funny, loyal, can be kickass when she needs to be, and she gets Ron! lol <3 Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

Wow, it seems easier to think of who I would not want to be! It seems a lot of the books I read the characters have to sacrifice so much and live through so much pain. I’ll have to think about that one:)

Nettle from Robin Hobb’s The Tawny Man Triology has always been a favorite of mine. I don’t necessarily want to replace her since I like her so much but I’d seriously love living in that world with magical powers like talking with dragons. =)
