On the night of Skye’s seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites—like fire and ice—Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye’s life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move—only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past.

In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can’t help falling for, and Devin, who she can’t stay away from, the consequences of Skye’s choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine.

A Beautiful Dark is the first book in a captivating trilogy by debut author Jocelyn Davies.

Most authors have their own creative spin on their own tale and I definitely enjoyed A Beautiful Dark. The novel starts out slow. The mystery behind Asher and Devian is unique in the way that they don’t reveal everything at once. That to me was frustrating because I like to know everything at once.

Skye is an orphan teenager living with her mom’s best friend. On the eve of her 17th birthday, her best friends throw her a surprise birthday party. There she meets a handsome yet cocky boy named Asher. She finds him arguing with another boy, fair haired and handsome as well. The next day she realizes they’re new at her high school also cousins who dislike each other and are both in several of her classes.

I really enjoyed having Skye interact with both Asher and Devian. If you could find a novel where the main character falls in love with two guys at the same time then this is a great example. Each boy makes her feel different and loved at the same time. I felt they both cared about her deeply and that’s saying a lot in a novel.

This ending was a definite cliffhanger. I want to know what happens next!

This was like something from the nature channel: wolves trying to mark their territory. (68)
They were so different. Light and dark. Peace and chaos. If I had a choice, I didn’t know which I would choose. (275)

I had to start this twice before I got into it. Then I liked it enough, but didn’t think it was great. I have been in the middle of the second one for about 5 months now! OY!

I liked this novel, too. Great review. I didn’t like the second one as much, but I have high hopes for the trilogy’s end.

I’ve had A Beautiful Dark in my Kindle for awhile now, but keep pushing it back. Sounds like I should give a shot, though. I do hate a cliffhanger ending, but at least A Fractured Light is already released. Do you have a review for that one, too? Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one!

The ending was such a cliffhanger that I decided I wasn’t touching the second book until closer to the final books release. I can’t take it! But other than that, I did enjoy this book. I don’t remember exactly what happened in the book, but I did enjoy it. I think I will have to reread when I get ready to finish the series up!
