Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness…

He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds…and desires. The bonds of his love transformed me, even as i prayed that the torment of our pasts didn't tear us apart...

I’m hovering between a 3 and a 4 out of 5. This has similar scenes to the book “that-shall-not-be-named” but the writing is so much better. There’s also a bit more depth to it.

What annoyed me the most was the emotional angst and the back and forth, on and off again relationship Eva and Gideon shared. They’re both traumatized by theirs pasts and we do find out the past of one, but not the other and that bothered me. I found their fights to be so over the top and downright ridiculous. Many times I felt that Eva was making something into nothing, while Gideon had no barriers for privacy whatsoever. I would be beyond pissed if he pulled stuff like that on me. I also couldn’t fathom why Eva had to explain how beautiful every character she knows. We get it, everyone is a Barbie and Ken doll in your fictional world.. It doesn’t have to be repeated. I found Gideon to be positively overbearing, controlling and super possessive. He had his sweet moments though. His physical description made me imagine Henry Cavill the entire time,so that was fun. As for Eva, I had no idea why she felt like she wasn’t worthy of Gideon. She would dismiss her worth all the time and it bothered me so much. I liked Cary in the beginning but after what he did to his love, I started to detest him. And what’s up with his “baby girl” nickname? It’s just as annoying as “Inner Goddess.”

Overall, I say pick it up for the steamy sexy scenes, but lack of character development and a page turning story eventually made me feel like it wasn’t finished. Hopefully these are fixed in the sequel.

It may be blunt, but it’s honest. You don’t strike me as the kind of woman who wants bullshit and flattery instead of the truth. (41)
What I want is to be seen as having more to offer than an inflatable sex doll. (41)
How can I be so turned on by a man whose words should’ve turned me completely off? (43)
I had no idea what I was doing with him, only that I couldn’t stop even if I wanted to. (125)
He looks at you like you’re the only person in the room. (157)
You are. You’re worth it. (182)
Thank you for being exactly what I want and need. (240)
I’ve always seen you. From the moment you found me, I’ve seen nothing but you. (302)

I really like this series thus I have read it twice this year :/ it does it have similar scenes to fifty shades which did annoy me a little. But I am one of those people who liked fifty shades. I agree the writing is better in Sylvia Day’s books.

I did try to read this book during the hype when that book that has a number in the title came out, this was ok but there is only so much sex I can read about in one book!!

    Great review though!

Hehe it’s okay. Sometimes it can be a bit tiresome. I completely understand that
