I didn't ask for any of this. I didn't ask to be some kind of hero. But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado—taking you with it—you have no choice but to go along, you know?Sure, I've read the books. I've seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can't be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There's still the yellow brick road, though—but even that's crumbling. What happened?Dorothy. They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.My name is Amy Gumm—and I'm the other girl from Kansas.I've been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.I've been trained to fight. And I have a mission:Remove the Tin Woodman's heart.Steal the Scarecrow's brain.Take the Lion's courage. Then and only then—Dorothy must die!
This isn’t your typical Oz at all. It’s so dark and demented and creepy! Imagine a garden maze where flowers have human ears.. O_O D So did time pass by the same as on earth? Why wasn’t she crying for home? Why didn’t she think about anything else? Why didn’t she question where the magic came from? I felt it dragged out for so long and I couldn’t see why some scenes were included. It was very long and it didn’t need to be. I actually thought it would be a stand-a-lone but I guess I had too high of an expectation. Who are these maids and are they human?
I’m also very interested in seeing how Amy and her mother’s relationship will play out. There’s so much darkness in her that I gasped out loud. So selfish! I just couldn’t understand what she was thinking. Amy getting recruited by the wicked order was the part where I DNF’d it. I felt it boring, I wanted more action and oh did I also mention that she was attracted to her love interest way too quickly? Dorothy reminded me of a mean girl with magical powers. The Tin Man, Lion and Scarecrow were all twisted and if you keep on reading, you’ll know why.
I loved how fast-paced the writing is. Once you start, you don’t want to stop. Also, I love how dark and creep-tastic Oz really is. There’s an almost insane-like quality to the people and even Dorothy herself. Overall, if you’re looking for a darker Oz and a slow story line, grab this one..You know you’re going to want the rest of the series.
