Theo is better now.

She's eating again, dating guys who are almost appropriate, and well on her way to becoming an elite ballet dancer. But when her oldest friend, Donovan, returns home after spending four long years with his kidnapper, Theo starts reliving memories about his abduction—and his abductor.

Donovan isn't talking about what happened, and even though Theo knows she didn't do anything wrong, telling the truth would put everything she's been living for at risk. But keeping quiet might be worse.

Warning: pedophilia is mentioned

Theo’s childhood best friend Donovan went missing when he was just thirteen years old. Four years later and he’s back home, safe from his kidnapper’s clutches. But Donovan isn’t talking about anything to anyone. Though she has a secret, that would change the case for Donovan’s trial and lock the kidnapper away for good. Will she have the strength to testify these secrets or will she stay quiet?

Sooo..I thought this book would be about Donovan’s kidnapping and the trial against the kidnapper and Theo trying to help her friend. Sadly it wasn’t. It was mostly about cheating and hardly any mention about the kidnapping or the trial or even a focus on Donovan. It’s really about Theo and her new found crush. I couldn’t really stand it because all I kept thinking was the selfishness of Theo and how it didn’t affect anyone else. How what they were doing was just completely gross with no regard for the other people they would be hurting. This is from the point of view of a cheater, and boy was I pretty angry most of the time. Then there’s the other side when Theo reverts back to her childhood where she didn’t know any better and engaged in a relationship. I felt sorry for her..I pitied her..And grew even more ragey against said pedophile. This book pretty much ruined my emotions because the characters were just doing everything wrong..Though Theo goes through a character arc and I ended up being proud of her.

I also kinda thought this book was just about Theo and her struggles to become a professional ballet dancer because the cover depicts that. I didn’t read the synopsis so someone like me who just picks up a book because it was recommended would be a bit disappointed. Though I wanted this one to be about Donovan’s kidnapping and less about cheating, the writing is decent and what made me not stop reading was finding out the trial’s verdict. Bonus points for including POC though!

I definitely thought this was going to be heavily about the kidnapping and the dance. Sad to hear it’s not. I don’t like relationship books when they side-step big issues. Being in a relationship is not going to fix anything inside of you… and when they try to make it like that, BLAH!!! I also think this sounds like a really unhealthy relationship, so I don’t think this book is for me. Too bad though, the cover is GORGEOUS!!

I was literally about to check this out from the library today! The only reason I didn’t pick it up was because I already had too many books (go figure.) The cover and even the title are definitely misleading then if there is barely anything about ballet/dancing. Great job with the review!
