Above all else, though I try not to think about it, I know which life I prefer. And every night when I Cinderella myself from one life to the next a very small, but definite, piece of me dies. The hardest part is that nothing about my situation has ever changed. There is no loophole.

Until now, that is...

For as long as she can remember, Sabine has lived two lives. Every 24 hours she Shifts to her ′other′ life - a life where she is exactly the same, but absolutely everything else is different: different family, different friends, different social expectations. In one life she has a sister, in the other she does not. In one life she′s a straight-A student with the perfect boyfriend, in the other she′s considered a reckless delinquent. Nothing about her situation has ever changed, until the day when she discovers a glitch: the arm she breaks in one life is perfectly fine in the other.

With this new knowledge, Sabine begins a series of increasingly risky experiments which bring her dangerously close to the life she′s always wanted... But just what - and who - is she really risking?

review

Sabine has always lived two lives. At midnight she shifts into her other life and lives it twice. Her different lives take completely different paths and in doing so she realizes that they’re both separate. What happens when she finally realizes that one life can be extinguished, will she stay and fight on or will she give up?

I really enjoyed this concept. It’s a take on David Levithan’s Every Day book. I like how in each alternate world, her life is completely different and her personality and attitude changes as well. The relationships she has with each of her friends also reflect her social status at school which I found interesting since in ine she’s a loner and the other she’s popular. What clearly irked me was her “perfect” boyfriend and everyone telling her they were so beautiful together. When in reality it’s all just smoke and mirrors. You can tell she was unhappy. I loved how the romance was played out even though I found it to be rather quick. In a span of two weeks, she ends up falling in love. The pacing was pretty much perfect because the timeline spanning her graduation day was the day we were leading up to. I wanted more explanations about her ability and why it only happened to her. I thought she’d also find out where Ethan was after what happened in her other life, but it didn’t need to happen since that ending was the cutest.

Overall, I recommend this story to romance and paranormal fans everywhere. It’s a quick read for anyone who is willing to question life and death and what happens when your life can be broken into two paths.

quotes

Change can be daunting. But there’s no point holding on to things just because it’s scary to take the leap and move on.
I like the idea there’s more to life.
I’ve always been more interested in finding a one of a kind.
I want to live each day once, the best that I can live it.
