Before the curse, there was a promise. A prequel to the bestselling Tiger’s Curse series, this much anticipated novella recalls the beginning of Ren and Kishan’s story. Before Kelsey there was a girl, raised by a villain, whose love for a hero changed the course of history.

Trapped under the thumb of her abusive and powerful father Lokesh, Yesubai struggles to keep her own magical abilities secret while evading his dark powers. When Lokesh promises Yesubai to the prince of a neighboring kingdom, she becomes the central pawn in his plot to destroy the ruling family and take power for himself. Yesubai is trapped by her father’s threats and desperate to protect the man she comes to love, but she knows that any decision she makes will have dire consequences. As dark forces gather around her, Yesubai must decide if she’s willing to reveal that somewhere deep within her she has the power to change everything.

Ten Authors I’d Love to Collaborate With

Beth Revis
She is an awesome friend, she’s spunky, we have similar taste in food which makes for great snacking options, she’s smart, a former English teacher so I could ask her all my grammar questions, and she writes Sci-Fi which I’ve always wanted to do.

Sophie Jordan
Her taste in men is excellent. Her romances are super steamy. She’s funny, smart, she has great hair, and she knows everyone. Plus we both like dragons.

Tera Lynn Childs
She is hilarious and she makes up cool swear words like damselfish. We giggle together at events and she writes awesome mythological characters.

Stephenie Meyer
Not so sure how much writing I’d actually do since I’d pretty much be gobbling up her pages and drooling on each one. She can write angst like nobody’s business.

When Brits talk it just sounds so much cooler. She writes characters so real and amazing I just want to meet them and be friends, even if I’m not in the inner circle.

Laini Taylor
I love all the layers in her story. Her plots are so detailed and intricate that just when I think I know it all, she reveals more. I covet her imagination.

Kimberly Derting
She is like a murder-mystery-evil-villain writing machine. Her bad guys totally creep me out. Also she goes places that scare me, in a good way.

Carrie Ryan
She writes zombies but in an interesting almost sympathetic style which I really appreciate. Her ideas are outside the box creative.

Kady Cross
I’ve always wanted to dabble in steampunk but I’m a little bit chicken. I feel like I haven’t got the credentials or the corsets to pull it off. Kady even makes her own steampunk boots!

Rick Riordan
I’d love to bring a little romance to his mythology and mix it up. He writes fantastic monsters and I think we have a lot in common.

Before the curse every began, there was a promise. This is the novella for the Tiger Saga. I remember reading the first book in the Tiger Saga so very long ago, and loving how everything was written. Colleen writes with such incredible detail and finesse that you feel like you’re plopped right into the character’s world.

You’re in Yesubai’s mind and heart and her life. And what a life it is. She’s the beautiful girl that has the most evil father I have ever read in YA characters. He is abusive and a megalomaniac. He will stop at nothing to achieve what he wants. I admire Yesubai for her courage to keep going for her one and only friend, but I really wanted her to fight back and to get rid of her father’s tyranny over her life. I also happened to roll my eyes when she became lustful in a second of seeing him and I can truly understand why, but when it’s laid out in the open and the character falls in love, I just so happen to roll my eyes. Not everything is about looks, and I did like how Yesubai ended up liking him for his traits instead of his looks.

Overall, a great start to the Tiger’s Saga and I can’t wait to finish this series when the last book comes out soon!

And you know how much I wish I was of a plainer appearance. Beauty only serves to draw more of his attention.
I felt safe, as if the plant life I loved so much could wrap around me and protect me everything bad in the world.
